Bought these hoping my embroidery machine would read them so I could transfer designs from computer to machine, thankful it does.Good device for moneygreat product, easy too use, just the right sizeIf your needs are minimal; if you simply need to store some files, and speed is not important, then this flash drive works fine. However, if you will often be saving files to this drive, then expect to wait. Of course it depends on the size of the files. Files that are only a few megabytes will be copied in 2 or 3 seconds. But if you are routinely copying a couple of gigabytes, and you do not want to wait a long time, then look elsewhere. The higher capacity drives (from this line) are probably a little faster (due to having more NAND cells to write to, simultaneously). But even if the larger capacity drives are faster, they will still be slow (just not as slow as this 4GB drive). So if you need to store stuff only infrequently, then buy this flash drive. But avoid this flash drive if you expect any level of performance. This flash drive is functional and reliable -- that's it.I purchased it as an emergency boot drive. So I will rarely have to write to it again. This flash drive has no activity light.Last year, I purchased these same Verbatim Store 'n' Go 4 GB USB Flash Drives and they were great in their operation and in their construction. I keep them in a 10 teacher unit for our students to borrow overnight if they need them. (This is a 35 student Special Education unit.) Our student base is increasing so I needed more and decided to purchase them early. In addition, I'm collaborating in writing a book and needed one drive with a low capacity for one of the authors and these seemed perfect. Unfortunately, I didn't see the picture clearly depicting a change in the flash drives from last year. The previous ones I bought allowed the metal part of the flash drive to be pulled back into a completely covering plastic casing when not in use. In fact, part of the plastic casing has been removed from the back of the flash drive covering as the blue flash drive as shown in the picture. I thought this was simply a picture of the flash drive being pushed out fully into the position needed for inserting it into the USB port. It's not. Fully one-third of the casing back is "missing", presumably to save some small amount of money on its manufacturing process. Thus, even when pulled into the casing, the metal flash drive is exposed and unprotected from any damage. The flash drive works as well as it did before, but this missing part of the back is unacceptable in terms of protecting the important part of the device when it is being stored. It might as well not ave any "protection" at all as well as this cut-down casing provides. In addition, there has been a basic change in the way the "business end" of the flash drive can be pushed out from the way it was on last year's model. It's harder to push the flash drive out than it used to be. That part is not as bothersome as the cut in protection for the flash drive, but it is there and part of my loweing my rating from 5 stars to three stars. I would suggest looking for a flash drive that covers the entire metal part when retracted, rather than going with these. It bothers me to say that, but they are just not what they formerly were, and I would have returned them except for the fact that I desperately needed one of them when they were delivered, so I had to use it which meant keeping them all. I wouldn't recommend these if you're looking for a flash drive that can be protected when retracted. Aside from that, if it's not going to be anywhere that it could pick up dust or debris, or be knocked into by other flash drives, these would be okay..I have always used this brand of product because of its high qualityLove a strong cup of black tea! This Is delish.I have a 16GB Verbatim flash drive and was very happy with the V-Safe100 software, so when I needed a larger flash drive, I bought a 64GB Verbatim flash drive. Big mistake. The first problem is the new design. First, even when the USB plug is retracted, it remains exposed to dust, etc. And it is a pain in the neck to extend and retract. You have to squeeze the the button, not just push, which isn't immediately obvious. But the worst part of the design, by far, is that it is upside down. That is, on both my laptop and desktop, when I insert the flash drive, the button faces down. That is a problem because the USB plug doesn't properly lock once extended. You need to hold the button every time you plug it in, and the button you need to hold is on the bottom. So if you're using a laptop, you will need to lift up the laptop each time you plug in the flash drive.Unfortunately, that wasn't the only problem. I specifically bought a Verbatim flash drive because I was happy with the VSAFE100 software. I finally manage to get the flash drive plugged in...and no security software. Turns out you need to download the software. Another pain in the neck, but no problem. I go to the Verbatim website and the VSAFE100 software is indeed listed for this model. I download it and try to run it. It says I need to run the software as a "privileged user." I have no idea what that means, and it isn't listed anywhere on the Verbatim website. Maybe run it as an administrator. So I take the flash drive to another computer that I have administrator privileges for. No dice, same error message. So I email Verbatim. When they email me back, it is to inform me that the VSAFE100 software isn't compatible with their new flash drives, despite the download being right there on the page for this product. They suggest that I instead use their new software, EasyLock. But EasyLock is just the sort of flash drive protection that doesn't suit my needs. It is a "vault-style" system that makes it a pain in the neck to access and use your files. I just want something that will require a password, then allow me to use my files normally. Verbatim no longer provides that, despite making representations to the contrary.I bought these because they were cheap and colorful (harder to lose). They have a couple of weaknesses. First, they are a little slow; even copying really small files is slow enough that you can watch the progress bar advance. Normally small files should transfer faster than one can blink. Second, the sleeve slides over the USB tip to 'protect it', but it doesn't protect it from anything, since the end of the connector is still exposed to pocket lint etc... Also, when you slide it into the USB port, you're also pushing it closed. Sometimes I have to awkwardly hold it open while inserting it. A small thing, but other USB drives don't have these problems. I got these as cheap thumb drives I wouldn't mind losing. Not everyone is good about returning them, and I really didn't want another one of my high-capacity USB 3.0 drives going missing because someone couldn't be bothered to receive a file by e-mail. These are big enough that I can put almost a full semester's worth of reading, research, and papers on one, but if I lost it I wouldn't be crying (unless my online backup failed). So far all three are still working fine. The produce is good, but not great! I found, in the both of them tthat I ordered, that the 'pull out' of the metal USB connector that goes into the computer's port, too difficult to pull out! I stuck on the side of the USB, a rubber tab (that you put under furniture to not scratch the service) that makes it MUCH easier to pull out the USB tab, especially if you press down & push up so that the metal connector stands out! The issue also is that I had to keep on pushing the rubber sticker down and up on the USB key when inserting into the computer's port, otherwise the metal USB connector kept getting pushed back into the USB protector cover!!!!First time this has ever happened to me with any type of USB key.Take note of this downfall! Otherwise is does work! Thanks.I bought this for my daughter so she could transfer photo and video files. It works really well. I like the idea of how it slides in to protect the USB end. With clumsy kids this is a great feature. It holds a decent amount of TV episodes. I would definitely buy this again but probably one with larger storage.
